Operating in Washington, DC, since 1989 and London since 1984, EIA is a different kind of environmental organization. Our methods are unique; our success rate far outweighs our size. We protect threatened species and the global climate with intelligence, for the benefit of both wildlife and people.

For over 20 years EIA has pioneered the use of undercover investigations to expose environmental crime around the world. We have also developed a global intelligence and advocacy network at the highest levels of government, civil society and industry. This capacity, coupled with our campaigning expertise, gives EIA an unrivaled ability to spur changes in market demand, government policy and enforcement related to trade in environmental products.
Our track record of combining undercover work with scientific documentation and effective representation at international conventions has earned EIA a world-wide reputation for successful campaigning.
EIA has directly brought about such changes from Indonesia and China to Washington, DC, and the European Union. These changes have prevented the loss of some of our most-loved animal species and curbed illegal trade in timber, wildlife and industrial greenhouse gases that also deplete Earth’s ozone layer.

Our campaign program includes three core areas:
focuses on the illegal and unsustainable killing of, and trade in, threatened wildlife such as whales, dolphins, porpoises, and elephants.

focuses on combating illegal logging and deforestation through exposing forest crimes, amplifying local peoples’ voices, and fighting for policies that shift demand towards sustainable timber and wood products.

focuses on phasing out, and ending illegal trade in, industrial gases that act as global warmers and deplete the Earth’s protective ozone layer.
